The FAA has directed US Airlines to replace the Thales pitot tube systems with Goodrich units by January. A Federal Register notice is due for release today. Their European counter part the EASA already had recommended the change. These changes are due to the accident of Air France 447 in which ACARS codes were sent detailing airspeed failure. Although no cause has been determined for the AF-447 accident; three Airbus aircraft have subsequently experienced the same failure and landed safely. 600 Airbus 330/340 aircraft fly daily.
