Military looking to ban smoking!

Posted on 10. Jul, 2009 by in Featured

Pentagon looking at banning smoking because it is bad for troops. You have absolutely got to be sh*tting me!! Maybe the bullets, mortars, IEDs are more on their mind than the dangers of smoking. Maybe, just maybe; being in a firefight, living on top of a nuclear reactor, catapulting off of an aircraft carrier loaded with bombs and then coming back to land on it at night, are holding their concern just a tad more than the danger of smoking.
This is the single most idiotic thing I’ve seen come out of the Pentagon in years, no strike that, EVER!
“Get in that unarmored death box of a HUMVEE, drive out over those IEDs, charge to the sound of war. But don’t you dare light a cigarette, it’s bad for you!”
This is painfully stupid! I don’t mean to rant but this just hit me between the eyes. I was lecturing my oldest son about how close he came to being hurt after he totaled his car while home on leave. He smiled his crooked smile as he picked the glass fragments out of his face.
“Sorry pop, after what I’ve just been through, I can’t get worked up over a little crash.”
He had just returned from the Sunni Triangle as a machine gunner; I saw his point. Whoever proposed this moronic policy should be fired, because it proves how absolutely out of touch they are with the troops in the field. Dumb-assed staff pukes!

    I’m not a smoker, I’m a rabid anti-smoker who used to be a smoker. That being said, I agree with you this proposal is very stupid. The primary thing that comes to mind is retention and recruiting. That will be hit hard…and they can’t take a hit right now.

    Rick;
    I’m an ex-smoker too. I was really peaved at my oldest two sons when they started smoking. However both are veterans and in their 20’s, so the decision is theirs.

    The thought of some staff-puke dictating to my son while he was fighting in the Sunni Triangle got to me because it shows how clueless he is. Instead of worrying about cigarettes how about getting some armored vehicles on line that is an immediate threat to the troops health! Someone that out of touch with the deployed troops needs to be fired.
